Two options for the next construction project in the Roswell Independent School District will be presented to the board of education this week.

The board will meet for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Administrative and Educational Services Complex boardroom, 300 N. Kentucky. Masks must be worn and social distancing is encouraged. The meeting will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

Among the informational items the board will hear about is a site plan comparison for Nancy Lopez Elementary School, which is slated to be the next project for the district after nearby Mesa Middle School is completed. Groundbreaking for the middle school took place in October with a 16-month construction timeline.

The site comparison study offers two overhead site sketches for the Nancy Lopez project. The first would keep the school at its current site, 1208 E. Bland St. The second site plan would build a new two-story school just to the northwest of Mesa Middle School at East Hendricks and Hickle streets.

The site study will be introduced for discussion only; no vote is scheduled.

Board members will also hear about the 90-day plan for Valley View Elementary School, redistricting of school board boundaries and mid-year assessment data.

The board is scheduled to hear and take action on two items — adopting the fiscal year 2021 audit and accepting a computer science grant.

There were no findings in the audit, which was prepared by Carr, Riggs and Ingram, LLC, Albuquerque.

The district received a $50,000 New Mexico Computer Science K-8 grant, the maximum amount for the award from the state, one of only eight in the state to receive the grant, according to a document in the agenda packet. The funds will be used to pay teachers for additional time they spend training and planning for a computer science curriculum.
