CHEBOYGAN — Dr. Kathleen Eimers, owner and audiologist at Dr. Eimers Hearing Clinic, is giving two community residents in need a pair of hearing aids this holiday season.

For the past three years, Eimers has been hosting a Hear for the Holidays essay contest. During this contest, people can nominate their friends or family members who need the hearing aids, in hopes of giving them the gift of hearing this holiday season.

Dr. Kathleen Eimers will be having a contest to give away a set of state of the art hearing aids to the person who writes the best essay as to why they, or someone they know, needs hearing aids.

"Last year I was able to help two people and this year I am planning to do the same," said Eimers. "It is my way of giving back to the community during the holiday season."

Eimers said one of her favorite things to do is being able to give back to the community through this fundraiser, and being able to help three people with the last two years' events. In the spirit of the holiday season, she wants to gift the two pairs of hearing aids to those whose lives can be improved with better hearing.

To nominate someone, friends of hearing-impaired persons in need are asked to write a short essay — 300 words or less — describing how that person would benefit from the hearing aids. The person being nominated must be 18 years old or older in order to be considered. Recipients cannot nominate themselves.

The submissions are due by the end of day Thursday, Dec. 2. They can be emailed to keimers@dreimershearingclinic.com, or by visiting dreimershearingclinic.com.

Those submitting essays are asked to give their name and contact information, as well as the name and contact information for the person they are nominating.

Eimers will review the submissions and choose two winners to be gifted the hearing aids on Monday, Dec. 6.

Eimers said the aids are top-of-the-line, rechargeable devices, and come with one year of free follow-up services.

This program was first started in 2019 when Eimers wanted to do something nice for the community.

The winners must be willing to have the hearing aids fit in person by Eimers at her office. The office will not mail the hearing aids to the winner.
