Donald Trump's assessment of President Joe Biden's first month in office as "disastrous" comes with his successor retaining majority approval according to polling.

Speaking at CPAC on Sunday, Trump that Biden has "had the most disastrous first month of any President in modern history."

But despite this claim by Trump, Biden retains a majority approval rating and this has remained steady throughout his time in office so far.

According to FiveThirtyEight's tracker, Biden is at 54.4 percent approval. It started at 53 percent in January following his inauguration.

Real Clear Politics' tracker puts Biden at 54 percent approval. It too has stayed largely consistent during the start of Biden's term, starting at 55.5 percent with its low point so far being 53.8 percent.

Polling throughout his first month consistently showed more than 50 percent of those asked approving of the job he was doing as president.

Ipsos/Reuters' latest polling on Biden's approval had him at 57 percent approval and 37 percent disapproval. The survey was conducted online among 1,004 American adults. While Biden received majority approval, the polling showed a clear partisan split. Among Democrats asked, 87 percent approved of him while among Republicans this figure was 19 percent. Of independents, 57 percent said they approved of how Biden is handling his job.

In that polling, when respondents were asked the most important problem facing America the most common response was "economy, unemployment, and jobs."

This comes with Biden having struggled to muster bipartisan support in Congress for his COVID-19 relief proposals, which are being pushed through Congress by Democrats using reconciliation. This has seen his push for further stimulus checks delayed, while his desire to raise the minimum wage to $15-an-hour has also faced hurdles.

The White House has said Biden's top priority is passing more relief amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In criticizing Biden in his CPAC speech, Trump said: "In just one short month we have gone from America first to America last."

Giving his assessment of the administration, he said: "We all knew that the Biden administration was going to be bad, but none of us even imagined just how bad they would be and how far left they would go."

Trump said Biden more than 30 times in his speech.

Elsewhere in his speech Trump took aim at Republicans who went against him in regard to his impeachment, either voting to impeach in the House or to convict in the Senate.

He also alluded to the potential of making another presidential run in 2024.

Newsweek has contacted the White House and the Office of the Former President for comment on Biden's approval ratings.
