President Donald Trump and Joe Biden are close to tied in Florida, tightening the gap in a critical swing state, according to a poll released on Tuesday.
The NBC News/Marist poll showed support for the Republican and Democratic tickets evenly split, at 48 percent each, among likely voters in the state. Among registered voters, 47 percent supported Biden’s ticket while 48 percent supported Trump’s — comfortably inside the margin of sampling error.
Another poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University and published this month, found similar results, with support for Biden at 48 percent to Trump’s 45 percent, also within the poll’s margin of sampling error.
Responses on Trump’s performance as president were also tightly split in the NBC News/Marist poll, with 47 percent of likely voters approving of his presidency and 48 percent disapproving.
The poll found that voters were likely to stick with their choices, with 82 percent of likely voters saying they’d strongly support whoever their current candidate is now. Only 2 percent said they might vote differently come Election Day.
The poll was conducted from Aug. 31 to Sept. 5 over cellphone and landlines. It surveyed both registered and likely voters, as well as Florida adults regardless of voter status. Each survey pool was presented separately. The margin of sampling error among registered voters was plus or minus 3.9 percentage points, 3.7 points for Florida adults and 4.5 points for likely voters.
