Hempfield officials want to hear from residents in survey - TribLIVE

Hempfield officials are seeking public input as they work to update their 16-year-old comprehensive plan.

Township leaders have opened an online survey asking residents what issues they think are most important, what type of development they would like to see, what they think is the quality of life compared to other municipalities and more.

“As we all know, the more input we have in the survey, the better the plan we’re going to end up with,” said Patrick Karnash, director of planning and zoning.

The survey comes months after supervisors hired Cranberry-based Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc. to revamp the comprehensive plan.

The updated plan will examine community facilities and amenities, parks and recreation, open space, housing, economic development, land use, historic and cultural resources, natural resources and public infrastructure.

The last time the plan was updated was in 2006, alongside other municipalities including Greensburg, South Greensburg and Southwest Greensburg.

The first phase of the new project will focus on “visioning,” needs assessment and strategy development. A second phase will look into an emergency services plan and future projects.

The final project could be presented to supervisors in May 2023.

The survey will close June 30 at 4 p.m.
