Acclaimed Southern-rock band’s complete saga told for first time

And yes, this is “The Fancy Like Tour,” wherein the Monument Records recording artist will travel on the heels of his popular EP “Country Stuff,” of course including the RIAA certified Platinum smash hit “Fancy Like,” which has topped every country streaming and sales chart since its release and has spent eight weeks and counting at the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.

Dubbed the song of the summer by “The TODAY Show,” the track is now in the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs. The song has also been used more than half a million times on TikTok and was used in a national Applebee’s campaign (and you can apparently thank it for bringing back the Oreo milkshake that’s mentioned in the song, along with the Bourbon Street steak).

We can appreciate a reference to dipping fries in a Frosty (no, you’re weird), but...Look, the song from Alabama native Walker Hayes hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country chart this summer and saw a boost in popularity thanks a viral TikTok video, so it’s no wonder we hear it inside Bryant-Denny (and during college football game commercial breaks). When this played during the Mercer game, it got a big pop in the student section. Some denied as much on Twitter, but we know what we saw: Rows of young fans singing and swaying to the Applebee’s song.

AL.com’s Michelle Matthews reports the song had plenty of momentum already thanks to a viral TikTok video. Not long after his EP, “Country Stuff,” was released, Hayes and his oldest daughter, Lela, made up a dance to accompany “Fancy Like.”

Hayes, 41, whose late father, Charles Hayes, was a well-known Realtor in Mobile, started singing as a child in Spring Hill Baptist Church, he told the Press-Register in 2011. He met Laney Beville Hayes at St. Paul’s Episcopal School, where they were both cast in the musical “Little Shop of Horrors.”
