Shannon Wray, author of “Pioneers of Mill Creek Canyon,” will talk about “The Ladies of the Canyon: Pioneer Women of Mill Creek” when the San Bernardino Historical and Pioneer Society meets 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7.

The meeting is at the Christian R. Harris Memorial Hall, next to the Heritage House at the corner of Eighth and D streets in San Bernardino and it is open to the public.

Wray’s presentation will focus on stories of pioneer women who made their homes along Mill Creek in the San Bernardino Mountains. Those women include Mary Ann Winner, who traveled more than 24,000 miles; Elizabeth Jackson, who lost her husband to a murderous mule; Rachel Tyler, who witnessed the result of a clash between settlers and Native Americans; and Kate Harvey, who wore six-guns on her hips.

The San Bernardino Historical and Pioneer Society meets the first Thursday of the month.
