EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to hear update on COVID-19 - Peninsula Daily News

The three Jefferson County commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 from Dr. Tom Locke, public health officer, when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

At 10:30, commissioners will open bids for a repair project between mileposts 7.8 and 8.0 on Upper Hoh Road.

At 10:45 a.m., they will consider a swap with Pope Resources of county-owned land for right of way for an Olympic Discovery Trail segment proposed between Four Corners Road and Anderson Lake State Park.

At 1:30 p.m. commissioners will consider budget reduction targets and be briefed on legislation for affordable housing.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will consider a work plan for the Ad Hoc Committee on Public Safety and Law Enforcement when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The full council is on the ad hoc committee, which was formed to learn more about the role of law enforcement in the community and the public’s expectations.

The council also will be briefed on a project called Engage PT, which is a campaign to encourage “community-led, integrated decision-making.”

The council will consider spending CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds for such projects as unemployment insurance costs resulting from COVID-19 closures and furloughs; City Hall front desk and security modifications to allow City Hall to safely reopen; reassignment of city staff to address the public health emergency, including temporary public safety staff and cost related to bringing some staff back from furlough earlier than planned to begin reopening sanitation and planning procedures, computer equipment and software to allow city business to continue remotely and sanitary facilities for public use.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider the need for an update of Comprehensive Scheme of Harbor Improvements when they meet in regular session at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

A public workshop is set for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to discuss budget issues and goals.

The council will consider at the afternoon meeting authorizing staff to proceed with preparation of an update to the Comprehensive Scheme of Harbor Improvements as necessary to maintain eligibility for grant funding, with a first reading and commission public hearing anticipated to be conducted on Sept. 23 and the second reading and adoption expected Oct. 14.

They also will have an update on a COVID-19 model.

The morning workshop will include a discussion of potential rate increases.

Public Utility District

The Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will review the preliminary 2021 budget at 10 a.m. Tuesday,

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority board will consider its reopening plan budget when it meets from 10 a.m. to noon Monday.

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will hold their Annual Special Meeting virtually at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
