The New Canaan Police officers that responded to a crash on Route 106 last week saved a life, Chief John DiFederico said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting. “The officers that arrived on scene and applied the tourniquet, no question, saved that young man’s life,” DiFederico said. The newly promoted chief was responding to praise from Selectman Nick Williams. “Just want to thank you guys for saving a man’s life,” Williams said.

Tigger and Piccola Murphy, kittens born to a stray cat and adopted last year by a New Canaan woman, are moving with her to Switzerland. Marian Murphy is preparing to move back to her hometown in Switzerland, near her large family, after living in New Canaan for 42 years. “The photo shows that the kittens are getting ready for the move and are guarding the many boxes, ready to jump on a plane soon,” Murphy said in an email. “As they were raised as indoor kittens, I know they will adapt easily to the apartment from having lived in a house surrounded by my wildlife habitat and watching the many birds on the feeder and spotting wildlife in the garden.”

The New Canaan Preservation Alliance is appealing the Planning & Zoning Commission’s Dec. 13 approval of a modified Special Permit application for New Canaan Library, according to a complaint filed in state Superior Court and received Wednesday by the Town Clerk’s office. The application “sought to modify the library’s Special Permit approval to allow issuance of a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy without an as-built site plan, without compliance with the town’s drainage policy, and without a certified landscape plan or landscape maintenance plan,” said the complaint, filed by attorneys Patricia Sullivan and Wilson Carroll of Bridgeport-based Cohen and Wolf P.C. The owner of the Mobil station downtown is also listed as a plaintiff in the NCPA’s legal filing, and the library is listed as a defendant, along with P&Z.
