“Ella Capella and the Pink Umbrella,” about an entertaining elephant, seen here, is a new book written by Jacqueline Hubbard, artistic director of Ivoryton Playhouse, and illustrated by Cully Long, a longtime associate of the playhouse. For young children and the young at heart, it was inspired by the support Ivoryton Playhouse has received from the community.
Aside from the video presentations, every story chosen will be represented by a square in a patchwork quilt that will be created. “A quilt is made up of memories - it keeps us warm and is a treasured heirloom,” she said, in a news release.
“Our quilt of stories will help us get through this winter and be a memory for us of this unforgettable year and all the people that came together to support us.”
On a separate note, Ivoryton Playhouse (which closed down only once before, during World War II) is celebrating the support it has received through publication of a new children’s book, “Ella Capella and the Pink Umbrella.”
Krista May, managing director, said the 110-year-old playhouse was concerned it would not survive to reopen when the pandemic forced its doors closed, but donations poured in. “We have the best audience around,” she said, in a news release.
