Some residents in San Clemente and nearby South Orange County cities are wondering why continuous loud booms are being heard coming from Camp Pendleton.

The booms are likely the results of explosive ordinance disposal engineers creating a safe path for Marines on the ranges, officials from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force said on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

The training has been going on this week and is part of the Marines’ routine training.

The loud booms are probably being heard because there are a lot of mortars exploding in the Whiskey/Zulu training area, which are in the central and more northern sections of the base.
