Happy 100th birthday to New Canaan’s Bill Jones, who served in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Essex during World War II. Born in a little house on Cherry Street, the 1940 New Canaan High School graduate went on to become a 31-year veteran of the New Canaan Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. Jones is also proud to be the longest-serving volunteer firefighter in New Canaan history and to have trained at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. in 1965.
