The Raincross Master Chorale will present “From Opera and Cinema,” a concert of music from opera and film favorites, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 4495 Magnolia Ave., Riverside.

Tickets are $15, with a discount for seniors and veterans.

The concert will include “May it Be,” the theme from “Lord of the Rings,” and “Over the Rainbow” from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The opera portion features “Pilgrims’ Chorus” from “Tannhäuser” by Richard Wagner, the “Anvil Chorus” from “Il Trovatore” by Giuseppe Verdi and “The Drinking Song” from “The Student Prince” by Sigmund Romberg.

The final piece on the program is “Before the Parade Passes By” from the musical “Hello, Dolly!”

The chorale will share the stage with two young singers who have been awarded scholarships for their music studies in an annual program sponsored by the Raincross Master Chorale. They are Kimberly Benavides of San Bernardino and Bella Rodriguez of Redlands.

Benavides will sing “Smanie Implicabili” from the opera “Cosi fan tutte” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. She will use her scholarship toward her master’s degree in music at San Diego State University.

She has sung with the Chamber Singers at Cal State San Bernardino for four years and she studied music in Germany during the summer of 2018. She hopes to sing opera professionally and to teach voice, according to a news release.

Rodriguez will sing “Everything I Know” from “In the Heights” by Lin Manuel Miranda. She is a senior at Redlands High School and will attend Cal State Los Angeles. She has appeared in many musicals, cabarets and variety shows, including in ensembles at the Redlands Bowl.

Her parents are music teachers and she hopes to continue the tradition with a double major in music and education, according to the news release.

The scholarships are for $1,000 per year for up to four years.

The Raincross Master Chorale, a 45-voice choir, is open by audition. William Brakemeyer directs the chorale, and Abe Fabella is the accompanist.

Proceeds from concerts allow the group to give scholarships to young music students.
