Did you hear the pounding rain? Here's how much fell across Bay Area - SFGate

Many Bay Area residents woke in the middle of the night to the sound of pounding rain.

A fast-moving storm swept across the region in the early hours of the morning, delivering a short, but heavy dose of rain.

Rainfall totals across the region in the last 24 hours were generally .50-1 inch for
the North Bay and .25-.50 for the central Bay Area. Inland valleys saw less than areas along the bayfront.

While the main gauge in downtown San Francisco measured .39 inch, a weather spotter in the city recorded more than .50 inch, according to the National Weather Service.

Here's a look at some other totals:

  • Los Gatos: .22 inch
  • Concord: .23
  • San Jose: .24
  • Fairfield: .26
  • Los Altos: .28
  • Half Moon Bay: .36
  • Downtown Oakland: .47
  • Pataluma: .52
  • Hayward Airport: .58
  • Napa Airport: .58
  • Woodacre: .74
  • Ben Lomond: .76

Light, scattered showers may linger into Thursday morning, and skies will be partly cloudy with highs in the 50s today. Gusty northwest winds along the coast and in the hills "will keep a nip in the air as we head towards some of the shortest days of the year in terms of daylight hours," the weather service said in its Thursday report.

Friday will mark the beginning of a dry patter as a ride of high pressure builds over California, blocking storms from the Pacific Ocean.

Weather through the weekend will be sunny and mild during the days with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Nights are expected to be chilly with overnight lows in the 30s and 40s, which is normal for this time of year.
