Crickets.
That is the word that Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni initially used to describe the response he has received from the NBA.
The 69-year-old D'Antoni hopes and plans to coach his team from the bench when the 2019-20 regular season resumes inside the league's bubble environment in Orlando, Fla. But D'Antoni said Wednesday that he's yet to receive any new information from the NBA.
"I haven't heard anything," D'Antoni said during a video conference call. "Hopefully I don't hear anything."
The fourth-year Rockets coach said he intends to wear a mask and practice normal safety measures while in Orlando during the coronavirus pandemic. But D'Antoni again emphasized that he wants to remain as close as possible to his team.
He joked that hearing nothing from the NBA — "crickets" — is hopefully better than something.
"I'm not answering my phone or anything," D'Antoni said. "I'll be in Orlando. I'll just show up ... trying to get in."

The Rockets coach understands why the league wants to protect older coaches. But if the bubble environment is as safe as the NBA has stated, D'Antoni believes the safest place for him is next to his team.
"We'll see how it goes," he said. "But other than being a little bit older, I'm ready to go. There's nothing else I would have a red flag, so I expect to go and I expect that it will be an unbelievably great experience and safe."
