The City of Shelbyville is eyeing three ordinances for possible changes and will hear a first reading on each at Thursday’s city council meeting.

City attorney, Steven Gregory will present potential changes at the July 16 regular council meeting at 6:30 p.m., city hall in the Cubert Room on the first floor to allow for social distancing.

Ordinances

The council will hear on first reading an ordinance to remove property from city boundaries.

Gregory will present an amendment to Chapter 40 regarding roadway solicitation due to complaints to council members from residents.

The attorney will read an amendment to Chapter 53 regarding unhealthful and disorderly activities classified as public offenses and is related to the solicitation ordinance. The council discussed resident complaints about two men at the July 2 regular meeting, one sleeping on a city bench on Washington Street, and the other panhandling.

Gregory will read a proposed ordinance change to Chapter 21 related to non-elected officials.

The council will also:

Consider approval of official minutes from the July 2 regular meeting.

Hear public comment, if any, limited to five minutes per person.

Will meet at 6:30, Aug. 6 for the first regular meeting of the month.
