As part of a sweeping, statewide review of policing policies, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez will host a community meeting and listening session on June 23.

The prosecutor and a group of community and faith leaders, along with elected officials and members of law enforcement will speak about and take questions from the community about issues related to racial justice, use of force, policing accountability, police training and internal affairs protocols.

Anyone wishing to send in questions in advance of the meeting or during the meeting may do so by sending an email to: community@hcpo.org. Questions and comments will be presented during the meeting.

The forum will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and and will be broadcast via Facebook Live on the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Facebook Page (@HCProsecutor).

“We look forward to hearing from a diverse group of residents and community stakeholders about issues surrounding law enforcement and racial justice so we can build upon the already strong dialogue we have around this issue in Hudson County,” Suarez said.

Earlier this month state Attorney General announced an initiative to reform police policies related to use of force in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. Floyd’s death on May 25 has sparked nationwide protests and calls to reform or defund police departments.

Part of the initiative are community meetings by every county prosecutor in the state to get feedback from residents.
