In its second open meeting since COVID-19 restrictions were revised, the Ridgecrest City Council will tackle what may be a brief agenda on July 1.
First up, council will hear the annual report from the Measure L/V Committee. As part of the Measure L/V ballot measures which passed, the committee is tasked with providing oversight to ensure Measure L/V funds were spent appropriately on public safety/RPD and public works/roads. The committee this year determined that this was the case for fiscal year 2018-2019. See upcoming editions of the Daily Independent for more on their findings. Council will also hear or waive a second reading of the controversial temporary employee housing municipal code amendment. If passed, the resolution would amend the city's municipal code to allow for temporary employee housing within city limits. The structures would provide necessary housing for the estimated 1,500 workers coming to the area to complete a multi-billion dollar post-earthquake renovation on the base.
Also on the consent is approving sewer fees for fiscal year 2020-2021 and accepting a grant of nearly $23,000 from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for the Ridgecrest Police Department to conduct ABC enforcement programs emphasizing deterring minor/juvenile access to alcohol.
Council will also hear the latest on the city's response to COVID-19.
Unless plans change, City Hall will open its doors at 5:45 p.m. prior to the 6 p.m. regular council meeting. There is no closed session scheduled.
Attendance will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis to allow for social distancing. Attendees are asked to sit at least six feet apart.
According to the city, the meeting will also be streamed live at https://ift.tt/3a57n0Y and https://www.youtube.com/cityofridgecrest/live.
The public can also participate via call-in at 760-499-5010, by email to rcharlon@ridgecrest-ca.gov or by mail to Ricca Charlon, City Clerk, 100 W. California Ave. Ridgecrest, CA 93555. Virtual participation is encouraged by the city.
