AL CUTRONA | 'It's very important for me to hear from my constituents' - MahoningMatters.com

It was an honor and a privilege to be recently selected as your state representative of the Mahoning Valley. It’s very important for me to hear from you, my constituents.

I understand the late Don Manning represented the people of the 59th district so well, and I want to be sure to emulate his legacy by serving those of my district the best way I can.

For those who do not know, I wanted to give you a brief background of who I am. As a 59th House District native, I’m a graduate of Canfield High School. I then went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Youngstown State University. During college, I was a representative of the Student Government Association and a member of the Academic Affairs Committee.

I then attended law school and earned my juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Now, I am a chief operating officer for a large tri-county infectious disease medical practice that covers Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. I also have held several positions at various law firms, and I’m currently a practicing attorney at the law firm Amourgis & Associates.

As a proud Hispanic and Italian American, I have had the great opportunity to serve on the board of trustees for Organizacion Civica y Cultrural Hispana Americana. And I am a member of St. Anthony’s of Padua Church in Youngstown, where I volunteered during college.

While I’ve only been in the Legislature for a few weeks now, I hit the ground running on supporting bills crucial to the people of Mahoning County.

Under House Bill 239, I supported reducing strenuous state testing across schools, which passed in a bipartisan vote. I also had the great opportunity to vote for continuing capital reappropriations funding totaling over $16 million in project financing, which is going toward various renovations and updates across the region.

The same bill also included $7.4 million for Mahoning County to be distributed to the municipalities and townships for COVID-19-related expenses. This is great in helping stimulate the economy and helping small businesses, and that’s what I’m here for.

I want to make sure the small businesses can succeed and that people who are unemployed now have the chance to get a job.

Now that you know a bit more about myself, I want to hear from you.

I have lived within the area nearly my entire life, and I want to take this opportunity given to me to truly fix some of the issues and problems that you may face. Your feedback will be beneficial and helpful in assisting me on what should be some of my top priorities. It takes a person born and raised in this area to truly represent and voice the concerns of the Mahoning Valley down in Columbus, and I will do that for you.

In order to contact me with your ideas and thoughts, please send me an email at Rep59@ohiohouse.gov, or give my office a call at 614-466-6107. I hope to hear from you!

— State Rep. Al Cutrona represents the 59th Ohio House District.
